In a system for the automatic welding of motor vehicle bodies, adapted to operate on at least two different types of body, the parts of a loosely preassembled body accurately positioned, in order to be welded by programmable welding robots, by means of positioning tools carried by side gates located on both sides of the conveyor line for the bodies. At least two pairs of side gates are provided having positioning tools corresponding to two different types of body. The side gates are movable on guide means provided on the two sides of the conveyor line to allow the rapid replacement of the pair of side gates in the operative position at the welding station, in dependence on the type of body to be welded. According to the invention, the system includes a store of auxiliary side gates having positioning tools corresponding to different types of body, and means for replacing any one of the two pairs of side gates which are on the two sides of the line by any one of the pairs of auxiliary side gates which are in the store.

The invention relates to welding, in particular, to devices for welding bodies of various types of vehicles.
The purpose of the invention is to reduce the metal and space.
FIG. 1 shows the proposed line; in fig. - the same, top view; in fig. 3 - the same, orthogonal projection.
The vehicle body welding line contains a welding station 1, a conveyor 2 for transporting pre-assembled bodies 3 from an assembly position (not shown) to the welding station 1 and to an unloading position (not shown).
The transport control means for the conveyor 2 can be of any known type.
The bodies 3 to be welded are supplied to the inlet end of the conveyor 2 after they have been assembled by pre-connecting its parts. Typically, such a preliminary connection is accomplished by bending a plurality of tabs protruding from certain body parts. Having obtained my connection in this way is unstable, i.e. allows a certain gap between the connected elements, as a result of which it is necessary to set each element to an exactly specified position before welding it at station 1
Welding is carried out by programmable welding robots 4.
At station 1, the body is tacked by inserting a certain number of welding points to fix the body elements, after which it is transported to the next welding position, where the body is assembled by setting the remaining welding points.
The line contains parallel to the axis of the conveyor 2 on both sides of the station 1 section 5 with guides 6 for moving the side gates 7 along them. The gates are made in the form of frames with positioning tools for various body types (not shown). The frames of the valves 7 are installed with the possibility of tilting and fixing them in the working position.

individual clips 8 provided with guides 9 for gate frames 7.
The line is also equipped with feeding devices made in the form of plates 10 mounted on the ends of sections 5 rotatably with respect to the axes 11. The plates 10 are equipped with guides 12 for the gate frames 7. The vaults 8 of the storages are located radially with respect to the axes 11.
To facilitate rotation, the plates 10 are provided with wheels 13, which are rotated by motors 14.
Lini works as follows.
The pre-assembled body 3 from the position of assembly is supplied by the conveyor 2 to the welding station 1. Depending on the type of body to be welded 3 of the sleeves 8 of the storages, a section 5 of the valves 7 corresponding to this type of the body 3 is fed. For this feeder plate 10, they rotate relative to the axes 11 until the guides 12 of these plates coincide with the guides 9 of the respective sleeves 8. With this, the respective frames of the valves 7 are moved along the guides of the clips 8 and the plates 10.
Then the plates 10 are rotated until their guides 12 coincide with the guides 6 of the sections 5, and the frames of the gates 7 are moved along the guides 12 and 6 to their working position. After that, the frames of the valves 7 are tilted and fixed in the working position, their positioning tools fix the body, and the welding robots 4 place the necessary welding points.
Due to this arrangement of the line, its area and intensity of use are reduced.
